　タイで毎年行われている“プーケット”というお祭りは太陰暦９月の最初の夜に始まるらしく、1825年に起源を遡れるという由緒あるフェスティバルだそうなんです。祭事の期間中は身体や台所用品を清潔に保ち、肉やアルコールを口にせず、異性との接触もしてはならないなどの10ヶ条があるようで、昨年は10月8日〜16日にかけて行われたのだとか。

　しかし一方で、タイ語で『キン・チェー（菜食）』を謳うフェスティバルとは思えない「イタい」お祭りでもありまして、九皇大帝に捧ぐ串刺しフェスティバルの方が現在では有名かもしれない....というわけで、痛みを奉納している人々はほとんどトランス状態。
